Life's Lyrics class

Life's Lyrics class

Postby Mommalini on Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:32 pm

Can someone tell me a bit more about this class? I signed up for it but I'm wondering if it's the right one for me. This is my first scrapping event and I'm fairly new to the hobby itself.

The example shows a really short passage from a pop song along with the name of the song, the artist and a short comment.

I'm not that up on pop songs and would focus mostly on Christian songs and some show tunes probably. Maybe even a passage from the Psalms (they're songs <g>) But the "passages" from the songs I'm considering are longer than the example.

We're also supposed to have the "stuff" written or printed out on Kraft cardstock and bring pictures related to the song.

Can anyone explain the layout of the album a bit? Would 4-6 lines be too much? What size of picture do I want?

What the heck is "Kraft cardstock"? Will I be printing the lyrics out on the full 8x8" size or are they lyrics supposed to be on a "snippet" of the cardstock to be pasted on the album?

I've been reading posts on the board about what to bring in general and you guys have all been awesomely helpful with your answers! I'm really looking forward to the event.

Hi, I'm your neighbor in Bellevue. I do not have direct answers to your questions. But they are great questions. I would tend to fill a full page if I was really into the song. But I'm wondering if a snippet is good just to "describe" the photo...a really fun idea! You could take both with you. No reason not to. And of course you can always hand write something in later. There is never any pressure to make a page exactly the way they suggest.

In one class, I was suppose to "tear" my page edges and simply didn't. I had more fun using decorative scissors. I was suppose to use black ink, I used blue. I guess I tend to be ready with "extra" tools with me. So, just go for whatever you want!

(and Kraft cardstock is sort of a tan color...boring! but it's neutral..take what you want)

Well, it's hard to know which direction the class is going to take. I get the feeling that the focus is on the lyrics with pictures to illustrate them or the significance of the lyric. I wish they had included a picture of a page and not just the cover (does anyone from CKC read these posts? <g>)

Maybe I'll cover all bases and print up an 8x8 with room for the picture as well as smaller sizes to use as embellishments.

Are you going to be there?

No. I get frustrated with it every year. I decided to take a break and save some money. Typically there are no reviews for the Seattle convention because it's the last one of the year. But if you could give a review...I'll keep an eye out for it. I would love to see that there were "improvements" and maybe I'll give it a try next year.

Oh darn, I wish I had seen this post earlier ---here's some information on the Life's Lyrics class (hope it doesn't reach you too late).

I taught this class in Glendale and we had a lot of fun -it's an awesome kit from Basic Grey along with a chipboard album that is 6 X 6. If the description says 8 X 8 I don't think that's accurate. Anywhoo - we finished the cover in class and lots of the embellishments but truthfully, I don't really think you HAVE to have your lyrics printed out. Since the pages are smaller, you may find that your printed lyrics don't fit -make sense? So, I would either wait on that, or print your lyrics quite small. Perhaps just a line or two. Also, the photos would be awesome if they were printed in wallet size; I think you would be happy with that.

Let me know if you have any other questions - it's a GREAT class!

Thanks Kim!

I just got an email last week from Mandy Thacker stating that the project can be done with just 6 songs/photos as well with lyrics/journaling on one side and photo on the other, giving more room for both. Of course, I struggled to get my 12 songs and photos selected but I can take them all and decide which way I want to go when I'm there and have a better idea of the overall project.

I went my first scrapping event this weekend in Issaquah (two days of one class right after the other and had a great time!) and although we had plenty of time to work on each project, I didn't finish anything so I'm thinking I'll probably be a bit behind in the CKC classes too and can finish up the projects at home, which means some decisions can be made "thoughtfully".
