I could really use a hug! Dental story...UPDATE

Postby DragonFlyScrap on Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:47 pm

Hey guys... last night I noticed 3 bumps on my gum by where a filling fell out of a tooth (tooth is not painful) well all night couldn't really sleep.... cuz I am absolutely positively terrified of the dentist... TERRIFIED.... all day I put off trying to find a dentist... and my husband suggested that I call this children's dentist close to where his pt job is... so I did and explained the situation and I have an appointment at 2 pm tomorrow... I hung up and burst into tears... its strange and I can't explain it... but it really terrifies me.

Ohhh I have to add... that to just pick up the phone and call that place took more courage that I can possibly say...

Children's dentists can be amazing. My almost 3-year-old DD just had her first dentist's appointment about a week-and-a-half ago and they were SO great with her. REALLY kind, gentle, patient...I sincerely hope that the dentist you're going to see is just like this because then your experience will be about as good as it can get.

You can do this...you made the call and that took an amazing amount of courage and you should be really proud of yourself for taking that first step. Take someone with you if you can for moral (and physical, if necessary) support.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, as will any number of other ladies from this board I'm sure. You can do this...we're all behind you.

You'll be fine, Je 'si. You already did the hardest part, making the phone call!

I've got the day free tomorrow ... I'd love to drive you there and sit in the waiting room calmly drinking a Starbucks and playing on my phone ... oh, wait, I don't think you live close enough for me to make it back by the time the kids are out of school!

Big hugs to you and just think; you'll be able to splurge when your done, I feel a trip to the LSS is in order!

Hi Jesi, I understand the fear of the dentist. Yet, I have to go every 6 months for a cleaning & always go at the first sign of anything wrong. I have Mitral Valve Prolapse & need to take antibiotics before I see my Dentist, who is really wonderful...so gentle & compassionate. He is so extra careful as he doesn't want any work done in my mouth to affect my heart valves. I always get a script for a full 10 days after even a cleaning.

You will be in my thoughts & prayers today. Perhaps take a headset & listen to some favorite music.

Hugs,
Sharon

Hey... just checking in... appt is in a couple of hours.... hopefully he won't do anything today... but I am pretty sure he will end up pulling this tooth... three years ago they were trying to save it...
my fear of the dentist is a long story.. but it was pretty severe and played out for six mos about ten - twelve years ago... (Basically it was an emergency root canal gone bad - that got infected and affected 3 other teeth because they got damaged during first root canal - so it turned into some major, major work, several infections and a few more root canals - this is one of those teeth that was affected at the time)
(also remember that I have an autoimmune disease... so an infection kicks that up and that is not a good thing... so it was a pretty intense thing)plus the dentist dealing with the infection was pretty freaking mean... I ended up using 3 diff dentists before the whole thing was over

last time I had anything major done they knocked me out... this guy doesn't do that so we will see what happens

Thanks for the hugs everyone...

Actually.... they were super nice... young young ppl... which was good... they had 2 nurses in with me just talking to me.. just gabbing... (I think they were trying to keep me from escaping - lol)

anyway I have an abscess and pretty bad infection and tooth has to be pulled... he said that infection was way to bad to pull it yesterday... anyway he put me on antibiotics and ordered some pain meds but pharmacist wouldn't give me the pain med cuz of my allergies... anyway they told me I had option of oral surgeon and being knocked out or letting them do it...

they were SOOOO nice that I think I am gonna let them do it.... not sure though...

weird thing is I am not really in pain just a lot of neck and face pressure but I thought that was the P. A. and very sick to stomach (the stomach part has been going on about a week - apparently its from the infection)

thanks for all the support you guys...

Good Mornng Jesi, I am so glad to hear everything went well for your dental appointment. Once you take all your antibiotics & get that tooth removed, you will feel a lot better. Take good care of yourself.
