Bake Sale Ideas?

Postby CherryTree37 on Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:03 pm

The Great American Bake Sale is currently going on, and I wanted to know what your favorite item to bake was. For those that aren't familiar with the campaign, it helps fight childhood hunger across the US. By the way, if you guys can also share the recipes, that would be great. :)

For bakesales my favorite is Rice Krispie treats...yummy, easy and they hold up well. I also like the basic chocolate chip cookie... nothing fancy, recipe on the back of the bag. For something fancier how about baby cupcakes? Use your favorite cake recipe or mix and bake in a mini muffin pan. Flip them out and decorate with a swirl of real buttercream (not that canned stuff).
Real Buttercream
1/2 cup of real butter (no margarine and definitely no shortening!)
1 pound box of powdered sugar
3-5 TBLS milk
1 tsp or so of vanilla

Mix the butter and the sugar. Add in milk until it is the desired consistency. Beat in the vanilla. Color it up whatever color you want. Put it in the decorating bag with a really big star tip and pipe swirls on the cakes. YUM

It makes it whiter (for decorating purposes). I'm not sure why else there'd be any reason to use both.

Derbylea1 rice krispies treats are yummy! thanks for the buttercream recipe as well.
Have you heard about the Great American Bake Sale? I actually work with C&H Sugar and Domino Sugar. Just spreading awareness about the cause. The campaign has already raised $992k and the goal by the end of the month is $1.1 million. Check out dominobakesale.com or candhbakesale.com for more info. :)

Yep, heard of it and think it's great. My dd had a bake sale for charity, but it's so hard to find businesses willing to let you sit outside nowadays. Best bet is a local store owner vs a corporation in my experience.

We did well with Buckeye bars. Just take a buckeye recipe and spread it in a pan, cover with the chocolate and serve like brownies. Make em small tho, they are rich. Plus, have some mini samples available. People find it hard to turn down once they try something.

Having some samples is a great idea!!

Ya, sometimes finding a place to hold a bake sale could be tough… Fortunately, there is a section on CandHBakeSale.com that lists places where others have held a bake sale. Did you come across that section? (When you put your cursor over “Ways To Get Involved” a drop down menu appears. Click on “Frequently Asked Questions” Question 4 is what you are looking for) ;)
