I started scrapbooking about 10 years ago because I wanted to make an album for my parents remodeling project. It took me 3 years to complete that project! And then I set my scrapbooking down for several more. I was in a creative slump, doubting my own abilities and fretting about doing it 'right' and being 'perfect'.
Then while on a vacation in 2006 during my first pregnancy, I purchased a magazine called Creating Keepsakes. As a mother-to-be I wanted to document the stories and adventures of my son on the way! I found that first magazine so liberating! Full of inspiration and ideas to get even the novice scrapbooker going I started right away on my son's album.
What truly got me over the hump, however, was Betty Higgins Sketch books. My mind is rather logical (being an engineer) and now I finally had a 'formula' to work from. Seeing her sketches helped me see how my photos could be arranged on the page. And with that out of the way I could enjoy the process of playing with embellishments and color. When I look at my albums you can definately see Becky Higgins in my style!
Now I definately feel confident I can call myself a scrapbooker. I've been scrapping the adventures of my son (now 2 1/2) and have recently begun to scrapbook my own personal stories. To me it is a form of reflection and discovery!
Thank you CK!
