Instructor: Laura Vanderbeek

Laura-Vanderbeek-Headshot.jpg You know that saying, "Home is where the military sends you."  Well, that was my life growing up.  I attended 10 different schools before I went off to college. After a year at BYU-Idaho and two years at Utah State I spent 18 months in the Washington D.C. area. When I returned home I met Tyler.  He was home again after spending two years in Germany. I finally had roots, a place to call home, a best friend to grow old with, and soon enough a few children to call us Mom and Dad.  Just 4 weeks after our youngest was born we found out I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, or cancer of the lymph nodes. I've been in remission for a little over 2 years.

I began scrapbooking in 1998 and Digital Scrapbooking in 2002. I had been enjoying photography since 1994.  It came naturally with several professional photographers and artists in my family and my background of sketching and painting. For a few years my husband photographed for a studio in town.  Soon we started our own studio and bought a second dSLR so I could capture those important little details without all the posing.

Instructor: Nancie Rowe-Janitz

nancy rowe.JPG Nancie Rowe-Janitz learned the joys of digi-scrapping after her daughter Ellie was born. In May of 2005, Nancie started ScrapArtist.com and what began as a hobby has grown into a flourishing digital store and community thanks to some incredibly talented designers and team members. Nancie feels most happy when designing and, in addition to her digital work at ScrapArtist, she also creates traditional scrapbooking products for Fancy Pants Designs.

Instructor: Anna Aspnes

Anna-Aspnes-Headshot.jpg

As a UK native, Colorado resident and military spouse with the United States Air Force, Anna Aspnes brings a truly global perspective to digital scrapbooking. Her journey into this creative art form began in 2002 with her husband's assignment to a remote USAF air base in northern Japan and the birth of her 2 children, Ella and Luke, now aged 6 and 4 respectively. Intrigued by the possibilities in technology to combine art and family, she quickly transitioned into Digital Scrapbooking.  The response to her early work in the industry was tremendous and she was soon able to turn her artistic talents to successfully designing and marketing her own digital scrapbooking products.  Her design talents have since been sought after by both national and international digital and paper scrapbooking companies.  She also teaches, consults and educates.  She is a Contributing Editor to CK Media's on-line Digital Scrapbooking newsletter and is currently an independent designer for www.designerdigitals.com Designer Digitals and Smilebox.

Instructor: Jessica Sprague

Jessica Sprague Headshot 2.jpg Jessica Sprague is a self-proclaimed "computer geek" and hybrid scrapbooker. It was inevitable, really. She grew up around computers, started a career in web and user-interface design, married a computer programmer, and became interested in digital photography. Then along came her first child, and Jessica discovered scrapbooking. But, as they say, geek is a way of life... and a new habit (er, hobby) was born.

A passionate paper AND digital scrapbooker, Jessica loves sharing her Photoshop expertise with scrapbookers looking for ways to edit and enhance photos, use digital brushes, play with digital patterned paper, type, graphics, and design.

A CK Hall of Fame winner for 2006, Jessica became a contributing editor to Creating Keepsakes in July 2006, and regularly contributes

Photoshop tutorials and digital and paper layouts to the magazine. Jessica also provides a weekly Photoshop tutorial called Photoshop Friday on her blog spraguelab.squarespace.com.

Instructor: Amanda Rockwell

Amanda is a mother of three: Charlie, Savannah and Marcus. She has been married to her husband, Dallas, for almost 10 years.

Amanda started designing and scrapbooking four years ago. Somewhere along her journey, she made it to Scrap Artist and it became her home away from home. She absolutely loves creating scrapbooking kits and commercial-use designs for other designers and photographers. Amanda also writes tutorials and teaches others how to design. It's nice to know that not only did  she create the pages for my kid's scrapbooks, but she also created some of the things used to make the pages. She hopes they appreciate the memories as they get older.

Rachel is a Utah native and is has been married to her favorite person, Nate Young, for nearly 11 years.  She has 3 children ages 9, 7, and 4. She is a stay at home mom who loves to have a creative outlet and digital scrapbooking is certainly one of her biggest passions!  She has never had an interest in paper scrapping, but at the urging of her sister in law she began digital scrapping in March of 2006 and never looked back.  She began designing shortly after in July of 2006.  In the rest of her limited free time she enjoys gardening, reading, and rocking out with Rock Band.  Her designs can now be found at scrapartist.com.  For more than you ever wanted to know about her, you can visit rachelyoung.typepad.com her blog.

Instructor: Tiffany Tillman

Tiffany-Tillman-headshot.jpg

Tiffany Tillman is a graphic designer rooted in a background of web design and fine arts. In 2005, digital scrapbooking was the obvious creative outlet once her daughter was born, a story needed telling, and someone popped a digital camera into Tiffany's "new-mommy" hands. Since then, she has had more fun creating, finding, and sharing new techniques to use in digital scrapbook pages rather than finishing her family's scrapbook albums. She regularly contributes to Creating Keepsakes Magazines as a Dream Team member and was inducted into the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame in 2006.

Instructor: April Anderton

April Anderton is currently serving as the Vice President of Operations of the Anderton Group - a fancy and fun way of saying she's a full time stay-at-home mom of three adorable scrapbooking subjects. Before accepting her current and most important position, she received a degree in Interior Design from BYU Idaho, and worked as a designer in Harvard Square. She began scrapbooking in 1998 and completed just a few paper pages before turning her full attention to digital in 1999 - a time when very few resources existed.

April has been a part of the digital scrapbooking community since it began. She had numerous layouts and articles published, (including the first ever digital layout in Becky Higgins' One Sketch column) before founding the original Digital Scrapbooking Magazine at the end of 2004.  In 2006 the magazine was sold to CKMedia and April continued on as a contributing editor and later became Creative Editor.

April enjoys scrapbooking because it combines her passion for photography, writing, art and design and focuses on her favorite subject...her family. She loves digital because it doesn't involve cutting straight lines, which she does not excel at.

Instructor: Carina Gardner

Carina Gardner was raised in Clarksville, Tennessee and is a Southern girl at heart. Carina remembers the first time she saw a designer "at work." Her dad had a small business, and he hired a designer to do some artwork for the packaging. As a little girl, she remembers looking at the computer screen and being completely in awe. She thought she could never do THAT. Carina changed her mind ten years later as a senior in college. Circumstances led her to apply to the Masters degree in Design Communications at the University of Minnesota. Five years later, Carina was also armed with a Ph. D. with a supporting area in Art. Carina has taught Graphic Design Foundations, Typography, and Packaging Design at the University of Minnesota. Carina now to designs full time and currently designs for Two Peas in a Bucket (digital designs) and My Minds Eye (paper designs). Her little family is the most important part of her life! Carina's hope is that her work will make the crafting experience more creative, more enjoyable, and more fulfilling. Instructor: Joshua Aikens

As a young boy Joshua dreamed of being the anchorman on the 10 o'clock news. Upon entering college he realized that the lifestyle of a newsman would not allow him to be home at night with his family - his greatest ambition - so he changed majors and moved to the other side of the camera, graduating in video production and editing. For the past 12 years he spent his days making marketing and training videos for large corporations, but when he came home at night, after playing with his kids and putting them to bed, he often went to the homes of his friends to help them edit their home movies. In 2008 he took his professional experience and his passion for  teaching, and developed Flixify a company dedicated to giving people everywhere access to friendly, simple and clear help in learning to video scrapbook.
